Pettit Ice Center
500 S. 84th St.
MDC brought in MMAC political affairs expert, Steve Baas, to assess and get legislative support for a change in the legislation for The Pettit National Ice Center in order to retain their non-profit status, thus saving the non-profit community institution from incurring additional expenses. The change was necessary due to the U.S. Olympics Committee decertifying designated single purpose training sites like the Ice Center in order to insulate themselves from liabilities in the wake of several USOC program scandals. None of these issues were present at the Pettit Center but the Center got caught in the backwash and a technical change in the legislation was needed to preserve its current status. The advice and expertise made what could have been a tenuous process, smooth and seamless, once again demonstrating the power of connections.
